7 Tips To Help you Bake the Perfect Cake

Do you want to surprise your hubby or wife by baking his/her birthday cake all by yourself? Then you are in the right place. From a snack cake to a multi-layered birthday cake, some basic secrets will help make every cake a success while keeping tabs on the mess.

Read the Recipe Thoroughly

The first and foremost thing to do if you want to bake your cake right is to read the recipe 2-3 times and gather all the ingredients before you start mixing. This will save you a lot of time, energy and mess. Plus, your chances of missing out on an important step are also lower as you have a brief idea of what comes next.

Measure, measure, and measure

The most important part of baking. Use standard measuring spoons and cups. You should also have a small kitchen scale for weighing ingredients. Do not tightly pack the cup with dry ingredients; instead, lightly spoon it and level it off with a knife.

Keep the Ingredients at room temperature

Ingredients like eggs and dairy products such as buttermilk yogurt should be at room temperature. Keep the entire ingredients ready an hour before you start baking to bring it to room temperature. If your butter or milk still isn’t at room temperature, you can run them in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds. Just make sure you do not heat them by mistake.

Sieving is a must

Always make sure you sieve the dry ingredients like flour, cocoa powder, icing sugar, baking powder, soda; while baking. Sieving mixes all the ingredients equally and removes any lumps. It incorporates air into the mixture. This improves the texture of the cake.

Add nuts and raisins the right way

When adding nuts blueberries raisins, and almonds to the batter, mix them lightly in flour and then immerse them in the batter. Don’t over mix once the dry ingredients are added. Just fold it gently with a wooden spatula until incorporated or the mixture will lose all the air and have too much gluten creating an imbalance that prevents the cake from rising.

Grease the pan well

This means apply melted butter or oil to the pan and dust it lightly with flour. Then line the baking tray with parchment paper. This will help in removing the cake easily from the pan after its baked. Cleaning also becomes easier.

Monitor the temperature of the oven

Preheating the oven is very important before baking. This creates a hot atmosphere for baking the cake. Preheating is done before mixing the dry ingredients as once flour is mixed, you have to bake immediately otherwise the cake will become hard. It is important to learn how your oven functions.

Setting the right temperature for your cake is also important. Every oven has a different temperature and capacity. For instance, if the recipe says for 180°C for 35 mins it might not be the same for your oven.

My cake might get baked in 30 mins maybe yours won’t. So do not panic one can always check by inserting a toothpick in the center of the cake and if the toothpick comes out clean your cake is baked.
